Journey of “Meeting Centre”

Professor Tran Thanh Van, the project owner, had come to Binh Dinh many times in early 2008 to seek a location for the construction of a centre where Vietnamese and foreign scientists could exchange professional issues.

Binh Dinh People’s Committee then submitted theInternational Centre for Interdisciplinary Scientific Meetings” project to the Prime Minister and relevant ministries for approval.

On June 25, 2009, at the 21st The Rencontres de Blois held in France, Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh, Deputy Chairwoman of the Binh Dinh People’s Committee, introduced the project on building the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Scientific Meetings before 200 physicists of 20 nationalities, including six Nobel laureates.

The centre, which is expected to cover an area of 100,000 square metres in the city’s Ghenh Rang ward, will include one 200-seat meeting hall, three other meeting halls, 5-10 workrooms and reception rooms, one 3-star hotel with 60 rooms and restaurants, a swimming pool and café.

Speaking at the granting ceremony, the province’s Vice Chairwoman said the investment certificate was the starting point for the project.

She asked the investor to soon implement the project. Provincial bodies were also required to create favourable conditions for the investor.

Project implementation

The centre construction aims to meeting the demand for exchange of scientific knowledge and experiences, organization of workshops and international courses on natural sciences and hi-tech, and cooperation among domestic and foreign universities.

It will also play an important role in helping students and lecturers in Binh Dinh improve their knowledge.

Professor Tran Thanh Van expressed many thanks to the Government of Vietnam and Binh Dinh People’s Committee for creating the most favorable conditions.

“We have come here many times and felt your enthusiasm which made us implement the project in Quy Nhon,” he said. “We hope leaders will help us speed up the project as soon as possible.”

The project is expected to bring many benefits to Binh Dinh province, enhancing the position of colleges located in Quy Nhon. Also, the province’s scientists will have an opportunity to share experience with other famous researchers.
