Representatives of the forum and Binh Dinh Red Cross present gifts to poor but outstanding students in Quy Nhon city |
www.sinhvienbinhdinh.vn could be known as a virtual community for students who come from the central province of Binh Dinh. Members of this forum have helped each other and contributed to help unfortunate people in real life.
Usefulness of virtual community
Nguyen Huu Vinh, a student of Quang Trung University, and his cousin Truong Dinh Loc opened a website named sinhvienbinhdinh.vn on April 30, 2008. There have been nearly 3,500 Binh Dinh students nationwide joining the forum so far.
Its members also formed many representatives groups in HCM city, Ha Noi, Da Nang, and Nha Trang. Also, the administration build many topics in the forum, attracting students’ concern for they are directly related to their student life.
Thanks to the effort of the administration, the forum is becoming home for most students who come from Binh Dinh.
“I initially paid fees to buy the domain name and maintain the website,” said Loc. “But now all members have voluntarily shared the fees to build the website, making it more suitable to students.”
Unlike many forums for young people, sinhvienbinhdinh.vn is an asset to students. Thanks to the information in the forum, its members could seek part-time jobs, houses for rent, and documents for each major.
Nguyen Trung Huong, head of the forum in HCM City, said members of the forum could share experiences in studying and know more information about Binh Dinh. Also, participants may express their own thoughts, narrowing the gap among members.
The forum is now connected with other websites, such as sinhviendalat.com, hoainhon.vn, and tuoitrehoaian.com, helping its members establish different relationships.
Connecting people
Tying the relationship among members is one of its activities. Participants are encouraged to join offline events and do charitable work together.
Representatives of the forum coordinated with Binh Dinh Red Cross to present gifts to poor but outstanding students in Quy Nhon city several months ago.
On the occasion of new school year, the administration launched a campaign, aiming to help poor students to go to school. Its members raised money and other facilities from many organisations and enterprises within 10 days to help 50 poor students in Ghenh Rang ward.
At present, another campaign has been launched in the forum to hold Mid-Autumn festival for disadvantaged children in Quy Nhon.
They hope the forum would be run by the city’s Youth Union or the province’s Youth Union, according to the administration. However, this hasn’t been permitted.
Despite many difficulties in finance and time, the forum has still tried to prove its effectiveness, said Loc.
