* Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai agreed to provide 1,000 tonnes of rice as initial emergency relief aid from the central government for the flood-hit victims in Binh Dinh.
A government working delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai on November 20 worked with leaders of Binh Dinh Province on repairing damages and losses caused by recent floods in the province.

Binh Dinh People’s Committee reported to the delegation that between October 30 and November 19, the province had been suffering continuous flood which caused severe damages and great human losses. 10 people had been reported dead, 1 missing and other 6 injured. 151 houses collapsed and other 281 houses damaged.
The rain-triggered floods also submerged 4,014 hectares of rice, 3,411 hectares of farm produce, causing damages to 3,971 tonnes of rice seed and 553 tonnes of commercial rice. 298 hectares of agricultural land were destructed. 10,124 poultry and cattle reported dead. The floods left 137,500 metres of roads damaged with total quantity of 283,142m3, etc. Total estimate damages reached 691 billion VND.
The province has been carrying out the damage repair, ensuring no people in the flood-ravaged areas suffer hunger, thirst and cold.
At the meeting with the delegation, the provincial People’s Committee asked the government and central agencies to provide the province with 3,000 tonnes of rice, 5,000 sets of blankets, 2,000 sets of water filters, 2 million tablets of Cloramin B, 2 tonnes of Cloramin B powder, 200 units of medicine, 850,000 doses of vaccines for treatment of cattle foot-and-mouth disease, treatment of cholera and 20 tonnes of Chlorine medicine as emergency relief aid. Total value of the asked relief aid would be 150 billion VND. Concerning long-term solutions, the provincial government suggested that the central government should invest in building De Gi habour as safe shelter for boats in case of storms; upgrading river and sea dyke systems, Duc Pho dam at Phu Cat district and 6 reservoirs in seriously bad condition, etc.
Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai directed the provincial government to keep on its relief aid and rescue operations to stranded areas; searching for the missing; assisting families who suffer human losses; allow nobody to suffer the post-flood hunger, thirst and cold. The province should also mobilize its human forces to repair transportation system and housing, clean up the living environment, and keep watch on potential outbreak of post-flood infectious diseases.
The Deputy PM ordered the relevant central governmental agencies to initially advance the province 1,000 tonnes of rice as relief aid to the flood-hit victims; support the province with the needy rice seed and medicines for post-flood disease control. Concerning the repair and upgrading of the downgraded transportation systems and irrigation works in Binh Dinh, the Deputy PM asked the central government agencies to keep on their inspection about the flood damages, making reports to the government for later plan of investment.
Before the meeting, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai inspected the damages and human losses caused by the floods at Cat Chanh commune, Phu Cat district. The Deputy PM visited and offered gifts to 2 families of Ms. Nguyen Thi Bay and Ms. Van Thi Cac at Chanh Hoi hamlet, Cat Chanh commune. Houses of the two families had collapsed in the floods. The Deputy PM also visited, consoled and offered gift to family of a 17-year-old girl, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem (at Thanh Danh hamlet, Nhon Hau commune, An Nhon district), who was drowned in the flood waters.
