A launching ceremony of “the National month of action for HIV/AIDS prevention and control in 2010” with theme “Universal Access and Human Rights” was held by Binh Dinh People’s Committee on 21 November at Quy Nhon city in response to the World AIDS Day (1 December).
Addressing at the launching, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh underscored that the HIV/AIDS prevention and control was one of the top priorities in the province’s socio-economic development and required contribution of multi resources. Leaders of agencies and mass organizations from grassroots levels should pay attention to communication campaigns to change actions of various community groups; ensure people with HIV have more access to the HIV care, assistance and treatment services; bring into play role of the HIV infected people in the disease prevention and control.
The Vice chairwoman asked the provincial health sector to keep on its promotion of the services, reassuring the rights of the HIV-infected people to access the care, assistance, treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS transmission, pushing up the HIV/AIDS counseling service. Families and social organizations should give more hands to the HIV-infected people, fighting against any discrimination toward the HIV-positive people. Communities and local governments at all levels should create the best possible conditions for people to join in the HIV/AIDS prevention and control.
The “National month of action for HIV/AIDS prevention and control in 2010” is being implemented widely across the country from November 10 to December 10. It aims to raise public awareness and change their attitudes and actions about the HIV care, assistance, treatment and prevention for all people; maintaining unanimity of the whole political system and people in the HIV/AIDS prevention and control.
According to the latest figures published by the provincial health sector, up to October 31, 2010, total number of HIV/AIDS carriers in Binh Dinh was 731 cases, in which 470 were entering the final stage of AIDS and 297 others died of the disease.
