During his trans-Vietnam walk from Ha Noi to HCM City, the Japanese man, Yuji Miyata, stopped in Quy Nhon and planted 200 trees along the beach, calling on people to protect the environment.
28-year-old Yuji Miyata is an environmental activist. He said he had paid special attention to the environment when he was 6 and thought what he could do to bring benefits to the community and environment when he would grow up.
Entering the university, it was his teacher who helped him make his dream come true. “I’ve walked for more than 5000 km and planted 600 trees in the past three years,” he said.
Yuji Miyata began his journey from Ha Noi on October 1 last year. Stopping in any provinces and cities, he visited charities and schools, planting trees to call on people to raise their awareness of the environment protection.
“By walking, we could clearly realize that our environment is in danger of being damaged owing to the industrialization process,” Yuji Miyata said. “If there are no prompt solutions, there are surely immeasurable dangers.”
Yuji Miyata said he was also impressed by Binh Dinh’s land and people. “Quy Nhon is a peaceful and beautiful city with a long beach, let alone landscapes which has remained intact and the locals’ hospitality.”
He has also brought a handbook and a flag on which there are many messages with him. Coming to anywhere, Yuji Miyata is always supported by the locals, particularly the young, making him feel very happy.
Vietnam’s nature and people had to suffer much loss caused by wars, he said. He wanted to share losses with Vietnamese people through walking and planting trees.
After coming to Vietnam, Yuji Miyata is going to other countries in the Southeast Asia, Asia, and Europe. His last destination will be London, the host city for the 2012 Olympic Games.
“I hope that all will connect with each other to protect our planet which is more and more affected by the climate change.”
