From a forum

The “Quy Nhon’s youth and climate change” forum belongs to the second phase of the Rockefeller Foundation-funded “Asian Cities Climate change Resilience Network” (ACCCRN) project,

With the aim at raising the young people’s awareness of climate change, it offered them the information about climate change, such as causes, tokens, and effects, bridging young people with experts, relevant bodies, and local authorities.

From the forum, it’s young people who work out suitable measures to minimize the effects of climate change and they themselves do what they can.

Speaking at the forum, Dr Luong Thi Van, a Quy Nhon University’s lecturer and an experienced expert in climate change, presented the causes and effects of climate change in detail.

Also, Nguyen Van Nhung, the city’s ACCCRN coordinator, introduced the project to participants and Le Trong Duy, head of the C4E (Cycling for Environment) group, presented the operation of the group for environment protection.

Attending the forum, young people also had chances to join quizzes and Q&A section about climate change, helping them know what to do to protect the environment.

Understand to act

At the forum, participants also joined the group discussions whose topics were to identify the vulnerable groups by climate change and work out ideas and practical measures to minimize the impacts of climate change. Once found, their ideas were classified in accordance with particular criteria.

Their measures are, more or less, related to the role of the youth in the environment protection and climate change. “The youth play an important role in dealing with climate change,” said Vu Thi My Hanh, a CtC’s PR official. “No one is as strong and fast as the youth, no one could speak as loudly as the youth, and no one has as many friends as the youth.”

Monitoring the group discussions, Van happily said that she was impressed by their ideas and measures, particularly the energy saving solution, the selection of plants and animals that is suitable to the climate, and the propagation for raising the community’s awareness of environment protection and climate change adaptation.
