A meeting, hosted by the province’s Department of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, took place yesterday, wrapping up the project on assisting disabled people and AO/dioxin victims in Binh Dinh after one year of implementation.
The project worth 174,000 USD which is funded by the Vietnam Association for Handicapped (VNAH) and Ford Foundation has been implemented in Phu Cat district’s 10 communes.
Under the project, two rehabilitation centers in communes of Cat Hung and Cat Tan were ugraded; 271 disabled people benefited from the rehabilitation services; 120 households were assisted in repairing and building sanitation and clean water works; 302 officials were offered training courses on the rehabilitation instructions.
A seminar on vocational training and employment opportunity for the disabled was jointly held by the Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs and VNAH on June 10.
The statistics showed that about 32,372 disabled people are living across the province now, let alone those who are wounded and sick soldiers, accounting for 2.02 percent of the population. Their living conditions are facing many difficulties.
Among them, 35 percent are illiterate, 21 percent haven’t graduated from primary school, 80 percent of disabled people who are at working age are not capable of working, and 90 percent who are under 16 haven’t been offered vocational training.
At the seminar, participants talked about the employment opportunities for the disabled, their products, and preferential policies for disabled people.
