Learning Korean
About 167 labourers are now learning Korean at the province’s employment agency to prepare for an exam taking place on October 17.
“I learned Korean to work in Korea and my Korean language has fairly improved,” said 28-year-old Nguyen Trung Thiep, who had worked in Taiwan for two years and in Japan for three years.
Another Korean leaner, Nguyen Van Luc, said, “I worked as a painter in Japan for three years and my income was quite high. After returning to Vietnam, I decided to learn Korean to work there. I’m quite pleased with my reading skill but my listening skill is not good.”
20-year-old Huynh Hoa My has registered to work abroad for the first time. “The exam is coming and I must try my best to have a good result which could guarantee me a chance to work in Korea,” she said.
Good income
The world economy has initially escaped from crisis this year and the Korean market is now more open. The Korean language exam aimed to select laborers to work in Korea now gives priority to all people.
The Vietnam’s Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs and Korean Ministry of Labour agreed to recruit 8,000 to work in Korea this year.
The number of laborers registering to work in Korea has increased in 2010, according to the Binh Dinh Employment Agency’s director Do Thanh Son.
Among 80 people passing the exam held early this year, 15 are now trained to work in Korea in the coming time, he said.
Also, 167 registered to join the Korean language exam which is scheduled to be held in October 17. Another exam is expected to take place in December for those who want to work in the fishery sector in Korea, Son added.
Son also said that the expense for the labor export is US$630 and each has to bring with them US$500 to buy insurance.
Poor laborers and social beneficiaries could borrow money from the province’s Bank for Social Policies when going to work abroad.
Those who work in Korea will have rights and responsibilities as Korean laborers. They are allowed to work up to a maximum of five years and their contracts will be extended once a year. Their average income will be from VND13-17 million per month, depending on time and each kind of job. Highly-qualified laborers will be able to have higher income.
