Initially, the province gave out land to 410 households resettled and these families had to finance part of their new home’s construction. About 150 households are expected to move to established resettlement areas late this year.
However, the progress of resettlement construction fell short of expectations.
Among the approved capital of over VND71.5 billion, of which the Central budget finances more than VND69 billion, only VND27.3 billion has been disbursed until June this year, according to head of Binh Dinh’s rural development agency Bui Dac Cuong.
The remaining Central-funded capital of VND44.1 billion should be timely allocated, helping promote the construction progress, he added.
Also, some local authorities had not put much effort in the ground clearance and many projects have seen slow progress due to the lack of sufficient capital to fund resettlement construction.
Binh Dinh borders on the sea in the east and the Truong Son Mountain range in the west; meanwhile, all rivers and streams flow from the west to the east. The locals often, therefore, suffer severe floods during the rainy season.
According to statistics from the province’s relevant bodies, a total of 13,785 households are still located in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
