Presenting scholarships and gifts to outstanding but poor students has become one of annual activities launched by many Youth Union’s affiliates in Binh Dinh. On two days (Jan. 8-9), 1,600 gifts worth over VND320 million were presented to students across the province.
The Phu My district’s Youth Union, for example, hosted the “Lighten the youth’s dreams” program with the participation of typical but poor young people. A fund was also raised with a sum of VND471 million donated by the local businesses.
“The fund will be used to help poor students in the district,” said Secretary of the district’s Youth Union, Phan Tien Vinh. “It is expected to support them in overcoming difficulties to continue their studying.” The Youth Union’s affiliates at all levels also take care of orphan students.
126 outstanding students were honored on January 9. Among them, 10 students were honored and granted presents at the culture-sport festival for students.
“I think I must make much more efforts to become a typical example for my friends,” Nguyen Nhat Anh Thu, one of 10 oustanding students, said.
The culture-sport festival for students opened on January 9, attracting 680 students to join. Different competitions were held, including football, volleyball, singing and dancing contests.
The festival left a good impression on many people after two days. The festival has been held for the second time. It helps promote cultural and sport activities and create a favorable environment for student to meet each other, according to deputy secretary of Binh Dinh Youth Union, Nguyen Thanh Binh.
Thousands of students enjoyed the festival as well as other events together. Other programs, such as meeting, youth forum, and talks, also attracted scores of students. They joined and share experiences in studying and extra activities.
