As usual, the province’s armed forces visit and present gifts to people living in the far and remote areas when the Tet holiday is coming.
They presented 9 tonnes of rice to 600 disadvantaged families in communes of An Nghia, An Trung (An Lao district), Canh Lien, Canh Thuan (Van Canh district), An Son, An Nghia (Hoai An district), Vinh Kim and Vinh Son (Vinh Thanh district) this year.
Also, the military officials visited and presented 1 tonnes of rice to soldiers’ families and poor households in Nhon Chau communes to help them prepare for Tet.
Their Tet gifts often include rice, bottles of fish sauce, sugar, and boxes of instant noodles, but they are still able to warm the recipients’ hearts when the Tet comes.
Dinh Thi Hong, living in Cat village, Canh Lien commune, wore a papoose and walked 2 km through the forest to receive Tet gifts at the commune’s headquarters.
“Seeing the soldiers bringing the Tet gifts to us, we feel as if all lived together, sharing the same stream even though we are living in the mountainous areas,” she said.
The local residents were deeply touched by the soldiers’ presents. “We understand their loyalty to the revolutionary cause and Uncle Ho’s soldiers through such a visit,” senior lieutenant colonel Nguyen Van Sau said when coming to communes of An Nghia and An Vinh.
The night-time temperature was below 16 degree Celsius in An Nghia when the soldiers brought rice to its residents. Sitting in a communal house, they gathered around a cooking fire. The No.3 village’s patriarch Dinh Chanh was so happy that he drank ruou can (wine drunk out of a jar through pipes) and talked with the soldiers until mid-night.
