On November 23, Mr. Nguyen Van Thien - member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee – had working meeting with Phu My district Standing Party Committee on implementation of policies on socio-economic development, security and defense protection, political system building at My Thang commune since the beginning of 2011. Representatives of provincial agencies, mass organizations and armed forces also joined the meeting.
My Thang Party Committee and its people had exerted themselves to overcome a lot of obstacles, boost up socio-economic development, partly fulfill proposed tasks as in a resolution adopted by the district Party Committee, reported Phu My Standing Party Committee. However, My Thang had recently experienced several cases of political and social security disorder which caused displeasure among the local people: illegal land claim and house construction; social and security disorders provoked by some certain extremists who committed unlawful arrests; gatherings against coercive demolition of illegal constructed houses, against implementation of projects on resettlement building for evacuees from landslide-prone areas, against exploration to build a clean water supply system for coastal communes; clashes among local youths and between the youths with local police; inactiveness of hamlet No. 9.
Response to the comments of the representatives of the agencies and organizations, the Secretary Nguyen Van Thien concluded that Phu My district had fulfilled certain targeted tasks but also had some shortcomings like in My Thang commune. The causes included the weak and unconsolidated political system at My Thang, slack direction of Phu My Standing Party Committee, ineffective communication campaigns to raise the local people’s awareness about laws, untimely settlement of land complaints.
The Secretary Nguyen Van Thien directed Phu My Standing Party Committee to spend time and energy consolidating the political system at My Thang; issuing operation regulation of Phu My Standing Party Committee, of My Thang Party Committee and government; punishing individuals - including party members – who related to the illegal land claims; strengthening organizations under the local Fatherland Front. Binh Dinh Department of Natural Resources and Environment would step up its inspection about the illegal land claim for sake of timely prevention and settlement. Binh Dinh Department of Public Security would collaborate with Phu My Standing Party Committee to investigate the unlawful arrests and punish those provoked public unrest as a deterrent measure.
