Making all-out effort

51 houses and one public work were built in 2009 under the second phase of the Border and Islands Homes for the Poor project. The Binh Dinh Fatherland Front Committee and Border Guard Headquarters raised a fund to build more 40 houses and another public work last year when implementing the third phase.

The third phase started from July, 2010, but we were required to finish the phase before the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, helping poor people enjoy the Tet in their new houses, Colonel Nguyen Van Hao, deputy head of the steering board for the project, said.

The border guards cooperated with the Fatherland Front Committees of all levels to raise the fund from businesses, organizations, and benefactors.

All border guards and members of the steering board made every effort to implement the campaign, trying to finish the phase before the deadline.

Bringing happiness to poor people

Everyone was close to tears when attending the ceremony of presenting a new house to Le Thi Hung, 58, living in Tan Thanh 2 hamlet of Tam Quan Bac commune, Hoai Nhon district. Her family members, among whom there are two disabled people, used to live in a dilapidated house.

Being presented a new house, Hung didn’t believe that was a truth as she couldn’t afford such a house during her life.

41-year-old Huynh Van Thanh living in Trung hamlet of Nhon Chau commune also faces many difficulties as he is suffering a serious disease while his wife has no stable job. His 5-member family had to live in dilapidated house for years.

Thanks to the support from businesses and border guards, Thanh and his family members now have a new house to live. He expressed his deep gratitude for the project when receiving the house.

These are two of 40 poor households benefiting from the “Border and Islands Homes for the poor” project implemented by Binh Dinh Fatherland Front Committee and border guards. It has helped poor people living in border and island areas enjoy a new life.
