Mountainous areas prepare for early elections

Voters living in 16 far and remote areas of three mountainous districts of Van Canh, Vinh Thanh, and An Lao will cast their votes for the 13th National Assembly and people’s councils at all levels for the 2011-2016 term on May 21, one day earlier than the national date on May 22.

The authorities inspected the preparation for the election at a hamlet in An Toan commune, An Lao district.

The localities are now ready for early elections. Many of them also had initiatives to overcome difficulties, well preparing for the upcoming event.

The Vinh Kim commune in Vinh Thanh district has six villages where Bana ethnic minority people live. Among them, the O2 and Kon Tru villages will carry out early elections on May 21.

Although the Kon Tru village is far from the centre of Vinh Thanh district, it has still well prepared for the elections.

“A group of officials was assigned to assist the villages in preparing for the elections, particularly the propagation,” said Chairman of the People’s Committee of Vinh Kim commune, Le Cong Chinh.

Other communes, including An Toan, An Nghia, and An Vinh, were permitted to carry out early elections as they are also located far from the centre of the district. In An Toan, there were many initiatives set to overcome difficulties.

“Those who live in areas where early elections will be carried out are all instructed to cast their ballots on May 21,” said Chairman of An Lao district’s People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Tung. “They were asked not to work or get drunk before casting their ballots. Some officials will be authorized to come here to help the local authorities.”

However, some polls haven’t been well prepared due to difficulties of far and remote areas. Some areas in Canh Lien commune are still seeing some shortcomings. The biographies of People’s Council’s candidates, for example, were made public but there were no their portraits.

Being aware of the available difficulties, the mountainous districts carefully prepared for the elections. 30 officials were assigned to help mountainous communes in An Lao district be ready for the event.

For the propagation, CDs comprised of the election procedure, the list and biographies of candidates were published to popularize the information about the election in 60 polls across the district.

At present, many villages have the radio system; thus, the authorities are able to carry out the propagation easily, according to director of An Lao district’s Culture-Information Centre, Hoang Ngoc Thanh.

“The election preparation fairly meets the requirements,” said Vice Chairman of provincial People’s Council, Nguyen Ngoc Tro. “Most authorities are highly responsible for their tasks and many localities are now ready for the event. Some areas were also asked to finish the preparations.”
