Bringing better health services to people
16:47', 2/6/ 2011 (GMT+7)

Doctors of Phu Phong General Hospital carry out an operation.

After two years of implementing the project No.1816 on “rotations of health professionals from upper level hospitals to support lower level hospitals in improving medical service quality”, people living in far and remote areas have been served with better health services.

Attending the online conference with the participation of 63 cities and provinces on May 30, Luong Ngoc Khue, head of the MoH’s Health Examination and Treatment Department, said the project has improved the medical service quality at lower-level hospitals, particularly in mountainous, far and remote areas.

Thanks to advanced technologies transferred from Central hospitals, for example, Binh Dinh’s doctors successfully cured some patients having heart diseases, including some children.

Under the project, Binh Dinh General Hospital received many technical supports for new treatment methods. Similarly, Phu Phong General Hospital and Binh Din Eye Hospital were technically supported.

Binh Dinh General Hospital has also done similar tasks, helping medical clinics at grass-roots level improve their treatment capacity; meanwhile, the medical clinics support other health centres, providing quick medical test for thousands of patients.

However, the project implementation has still faced many difficulties due to the lack of doctors and facilities as well as the overload of patients.

Alongside these, there are no preferential policies for medical workers who are in charge of the project.

At the online conference, the participants also mentioned similar issues. They said some hospitals haven’t well prepared for the project while the lack of advanced facilities caused difficulties in technology transfer.

The MoH’s representative said it will promote the propagation and improve the role of functional bodies, aiming to resolve shortcomings and ensure the effectiveness of the project. In addition, preferential policies for medical staff are expected to be proposed.
