A group of 22 workers working at Quy Nhon’s urban lighting, green tree and park company has the responsibility for taking care of trees and flowers of different kinds for the city decoration. Their task partly makes the city more beautiful, particularly in special holidays.
They often work at a 1.8 hectare garden located in Quang Trung ward. The garden is the place where seeds of many trees and flowers are germinated.
All workers, of which women are the majority, are manual laborers. After being recruited to work at the company, they joined a three-month course on tree germination and relevant tasks.
When being assigned specific tasks, they often share experience with each other, helping improve their skills. They all overcome the annual contests for wage increase.
Ngo Thi Thu Ha, one of employers working at the garden, has worked here for 10 years. She started working as a new recruit, but she is now one of experienced workers earning a monthly wage of VND2.8 million.
“This type of work is very suitable to women,” Ha said. “It is not hard but we still face great pressure during special holidays as we have to make flowers and trees germinate in time so that they are able to be displayed at public places when holidays come.”
Ho Thi Ngoc Hang, a new recruit, said she loved planting and looking after flowers; thus, she is determined to work here despite any difficulties.
Every day, people could pass by main streets in the city and enjoy beautiful pots of flowers or trees, but not many know that all of them are germinated by the workers.
As usual, their work becomes harder as any special holidays come. They have to put flowers into each pot or bags and they are then taken to public places. The workers sometimes have to work until 8-9 pm.
Ha said their tiredness seemed disappear when they go around the city and realize their work partly make Quy Nhon become more beautiful.
