Supporting young fishermen
16:22', 1/8/ 2011 (GMT+7)

Three young fishermen in Binh Dinh received the financial support from the Thanh Nien Newspaper-launched program. This is a share with disadvantaged fishermen who go fishing offshore day and night and protect the country’s sovereignty.

Young fishermen receive the financial support from the program.

Going fishing, fishermen always face many risks, such as disaster or foreign vessels. They might lose everything, bringing them to the verge of bankruptcy.

The fisherman Phan Van Ca, for example, faced many difficulties after his vessel had been shipwrecked. He has been unemployed and his children are facing the risk of giving up studying. Similarly, Nguyen Van Sang is another fisherman whose boat was sunk when he went fishing last year.

Under the program, each of them was offered VND80 million funded by HD Bank, helping them buy another fishing vessels to go fishing again and overcoming difficulties.

Alongside these, the fishermen Vo Xuan Cuong passed away when his boat was hit by a foreign one and it sunk later. This accident has saddled his family with debts and his wife had to suffer severe financial hardship. The program financed her with 60 million VND, helping her pay the debt and raise two children.

After the program was launched for one month, many benefactors and businesses have actively responded to the program, sharing the difficulties with young fishermen.
