Faith of a young female paralytic
7:42', 16/8/ 2011 (GMT+7)

At a recent 2nd provincial meeting to praise disabled people and orphan children who actively try to overcome adversities, Vo Thi Kim Doan - a paralytic co-owner of photocopy shop PC-DNT at 25 Le Thanh Ton St., Quy Nhon city – acted as a representative from Nguyen Nga Association for Disabled People to report her own achievements during her path of defeating the polio.

Born with paralyzed feet, Doan was too weak to go to school. Her schooling started as she was at the age of 9. She then won title of good student in 9 uninterrupted school years but had to give up her studies because her house was too far from the school.

Watching a charity television program, Doan saw worse disabled people working and living on themselves, helping their families. Doan hoped to become an embroiderer-knitter who would make beautiful embroidery pictures or nice sweater.

She determinedly asked her parents to let her enroll a vocational training course. In early 2003, Nguyen Nga Association for Disabled People apprenticed her. She was no longer quiet, timid but made friends with other apprentices.

After the apprenticeship at Nguyen Nga facility, she finally decided to choose IT her job. Graduating from computer engineering, she was financially assisted by the facility to start her own business. The photocopy shop has gained support of many customers since then. The shop co-owners have become more confident, self-reliant and able to support themselves.
