Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Mai Thanh Thang paid inspection tours around An Nhon district and Binh Dinh General Hospital on August 22 to check prevention and control of the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD).
He ordered the local government and the hospital to take initiatives and be ready in fighting the disease.
Until August 19, the province has recorded 103 cases of the disease over 9 districts and municipalities, 1 death allegedly caused by the disease, reports from Binh Dinh Department of Health. Results of 40 samples of HFMD sent to Nha Trang-based Pasteur Institute for tests revealed 1 case of Enterovirut 71 virus positive.
The number of contracted victims continues to rise and the virus outbreak likely spreads on larger scale.
After visiting An Nhon Medical Centre and the provincial General Hospital, Thang said situation of the HFMD in Binh Dinh wasn’t as complicated as other provinces and municipalities.
However, the provincial health agencies and local governments shouldn’t subjectively underestimate the risks but prepare emergency responses in case of the epidemic outbreak.
He emphasized on communication on the disease prevention in addition to boosted efforts of monitoring, identifying and isolating “hot spots” of the disease.
Leaders of local governments should direct their education agencies to collaborate with health agencies in information about the disease situation, prevention and control.
Thang acknowledged difficulties of the locality and the hospital as well as their proposed solutions.
He directed the Health Department to promptly draw out detailed response plans and organize a meeting on helping facilities in need of equipments, materials and disinfectants.
