On the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the August Revolution, we returned Hoai Nhon district’s Bong Son town, a revolutionary base in the two resistance wars against France and America and felt a day-by-day change on the land of heroic revolutionary traditions.
1.
During the resistance war against France, Bong Son was a leading resistance centre of the 5th Inter-Regional. It was also an operation area of the heroic 3rd Division in the war against America. Many historical sites were maintained in here, such as Thiet Dinh airport, the 28th fortification hill, 30th hill, Ong Lu storey, Song Lo’s coconut grove
In the 1972 spring-summer offensive, Bong Son’s army and people coordinated with the 3rd Division to liberate Bong Son town and Hoai Nhon district. On March 28 1975, all of town’s districts were liberated.

Since 2005 series of infrastructure projects serving on economic development process and town upgrading have been carried out in Bong Son town, such as widening and asphalt some road transport routes, building Lai river dike system and clean water supply system for the town, establishing Bong Son Engineering School, and expanding Bong Son General Hospital...
The town has been more and more spacious. It was recognized as 4th-grade urban on December 30, 2010. This is a significant foundation for Bong Son on the road to a city in the near future.

Bong Son is a region that has strong economic growth in recent years. Its industrial zone has been upgraded and has a stable operation, creating jobs for nearly 500 workers.
Industrial manufacturers in Bong Son town also overcame the problem of air pollution, securing a stable manufacturing operation and high growth rate.
The 2010’s industrial production value reached VND143.3 billion, an increase of 21 percent over 2009. The value in the first eight months of 2011 was estimated VND80 billion, a rise of 18.8 percent in comparison with the same period last year.
The trading and service activities also grew, especially gold, silver, gemstone, building materials, electronics, machines, car parts, restaurant, hotel.
Bong Son trading center has gradually entered stable operation process. The total of retail sales of goods and services reached over VND 500 billion, a surge of 26 percent from 2009. It earned over VND400 billion in the first eight months of 2011, increasing 27 percent against the last year’s corresponding period.

This encouraging result in recent years has created an important foundation for Bong Son to stably become to city. It is also the Bong Son authorities and people’s pride and a new motivation effecting on development goals in the coming time.
As planned, when being a city, the industry-trade-service-agriculture sector will be the city’s economic structure. Bong Son will become a commercial, service and industrial hub in the north of Hoai Nhon province, playing a key role in promoting the socio-economic development in the north of Binh Dinh.
Its goal for 2011-2015 period is to achieve an average economic growth of 15-16 percent and average income of VND20-25 million per person per year.
The Bong Son town has been strongly developed and will become a wealthy Bong Son city in near future.
