An Lao strengthens social welfare measures

A resettlement area in An Nghia commune

This year is the second year An Lao district has implemented the sustainable poverty reduction program, following the Government’s Resolution No.30a, in the 2011-2015 period.

The district has synchronously carried out different measures since early this year, aiming to quickly and sustainably reduce the poverty. The measures were combined with the national target programs to ensure the social welfare, which is a top priority.

An Lao is also strengthening the progress of rural development program, focusing on the infrastructure and socio-economic development in its communes, particularly at ethnic minority areas.

In the short-term, the district plans to adjust the socio welfare scheme for the poor carried out in 2012. The local authorities will also invest over 5,3 billion VND in the health sector, build facilities for education sector with the total capital of 15.1 billion VND, buy educational facilities, and support the construction for poor households.

Poor residents are offered preferential loan to promote their production and encouraged to join labor export program. The district was allocated over 1 billion VND to generate jobs for 104 laborers this year, offer vocational training for 350 local people.

The local authorities have coordinated with local schools to assist their students in choosing majors which are suitable to their ability.
