Students prepare for performances at the upcoming martial arts festival

This year’s event saw more students registering to become volunteers than previous festivals, according to Nguyen Thanh Binh, deputy secretary of Binh Dinh Youth Union.
“Besides requirements on foreign languages, we mainly focused on criteria in morals, appearance, enthusiasm, communication skills, and knowledge during the selection process,” he said.
120 selected students will be divided into 6 groups to support delegates, reporters, and martial arts teams. They are also expected to be an important channel to propagate the province’s image.
They will attend a training course on July 26-27, aiming to best serve the upcoming tasks. During the course, they will be provided with detailed information on the festival, basic communication skills, regulations on communicating with foreigners, and issues relating to local tourism.
One of challenges volunteers faced in previous events was that visiting delegates belonged to different countries and spoke different languages while most volunteers only knew English. Also, the schedule was not suitable to the delegates, causing difficulties for the preparations. Thus, the province’s center for tourism promotion asked the organizing board to scheduled programs after 8 am.
The festival is coming and volunteers are eager to join such a big event in their life. Pham Thi My Nhan, an English student teacher, said: “This is the first time I’ve joined such a big event. After being selected, I’ve spent much more time to acquire the knowledge of history and culture of Binh Dinh as well as routes to destinations for performance.”
