Binh Dinh Provincial leaders hold a meeting with Laos’ Champassak province’s delegation |
A delegation from Laos’ Champasak province, led by its governor Somsay Siphandone on August 20 paid a working visit to Binh Dinh province.
The visit is part of activities responding to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties, 35 years since the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Co-operation Treaty, and the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Year 2012.
Receiving the delegation, Binh Dinh’s Chairman Le Huu Loc briefed them on the province’s socio-economic situation and achievements of cooperation programs between two provinces.
Binh Dinh has supported Champasak many kinds of trees and animals as well as agricultural promotion models since 2002, let alone 56 scholarships to Lao students studying at Quy Nhon University.
Loc asked Champasak’s leaders to facilitate license-related procedures for Binh Dinh’s investors in Champassak.
After their talks, it was decided that Binh Dinh province will continue to send agricultural specialists to Champasak to help introduce new models of farming and animal husbandry. Delegations of Vietnamese businesses will also be sent to the locality to seek out investment opportunities.
Champasak will speed up the process of granting certificates for land use to Vietnamese businesses keen to operate in the province and take advantage of the preferential policies, introduced to attract more investors from Binh Dinh province.
In recent years, Binh Dinh has helped the Lao province train up health care workers and has provided scholarships for students in the province to study in Vietnam.
Both provinces have teamed up to build a US$2 million pharmaceuticals factory in Champasak, which has set aside 340 hectares for the Binh Dinh Medical Equipment Company to plant coffee in the locality, bringing stable jobs for 500 local people and providing seasonal work for 1,000 others.
To mark the occasion, Secretary of Binh Dinh’s provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Thien and Chairman of Binh Dinh’s People’s Committee Le Huu Loc, were conferred with Laos’ ITSARA Order, third-class, for their contributions to establishing and promoting friendship and comprehensive cooperation between both provinces and both countries.
