Now locates in Quang Trung Museum at Phu Phong Townlet, Tay Son District, 40 km Northwest of Quy Nhon city. This palace is the place for the local people to worship the Tay Son Brothers Nguyen Nhac, Nguyen Hue and Nguyen Lu. In spite of ups and downs, the palace has been always protected and embellished as a token of the people’s pride, respect and faith to the Three Brothers of Tay Son.
Tay Son Palace is small but holy. In front of the big yard stands a three-door temple gate and next is the stela recording devotion of Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue. The main room of the palace comprises three sections. The middle section is for worship of Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue King. The left is for Nguyen Nhac and the right for Nguyen Lu.
The palace was built on the same site of the three Tay Son leaders’ old house where used to be the worship hall of their parents – Mr. Ho Phi Phuc and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dong. It is the place that the three brothers were born and bred, then became the pre-eminent leaders of Vietnamese farmers and people at the end of the 18th century. Up till now, in the old garden, next to the Tay Son Palace, two extremely precious vestiges (an ancient tamarind tree and an old well) still remain.
The over-200-year-old tamarind tree
Legend has it that the ancient tree was planted near to the Tay Son palace by parents of the three Tay Son brothers. The tree has large branches shading the whole area of the garden and the root’s perimeter is 3.5m. The tamarind is recorded in a popular, emotional and historical folk- tale:
“ The old Tamarind, the old Trau prier
If mutual benevolence and righteousness are not satisfactorily met, the sentimental attachment should be still remained”
The Well
Locates on the right of Tay Son Palace. It is said that the well was built by their parents. It was made of laterite, 0.9m wide and 0.8-m high. Its water is now still fresh and cool like it used to nourish the spirit and will of the three Tay Son brothers.
Nowadays, Tay Son Palace, the Tamarind and the Well are preserved well. The Quang Trung Museum was built in 1978 by the Government as a grant and imposing ancient-style architecture, comprising 9 rooms for display of memorial items of the Tay Son Movement and Quang Trung King (1771 – 1789).
Visiting Quang Trung Museum, sitting under the tarmarind tree and drinking fresh water from the well, tourists can strongly feel spirit of martial arts, heroism, strong will in anti-invasion resistance war of Tay Son Movement. They probably understand better about glorious victories of Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue King.
Besides, the tourists will also enjoy unique and attractive performances about the history of Tay Son Movement such as Tay Son martial arts act, Quang Trung battle drum beating, traditional music performance. In such environment, the tourists feel as if they were in back to the famous victories of the nation in the 18th century.
