Bau Da Wine

Binh Dinh Province has been considered land of many historical and cultural monuments as well as many unique flavour of Central Vietnam with charming landscape.

Banh it la gai cake: Visiting Binh Dinh Province, tourists will taste Banh it la gai cake, a kind of simple and popular cake of Binh Dinh people. On occasion of death anniversaries, it is acceptable to lack of fish and meat, but there must be Banh it la gai cakes. Also in marriage custom, the bride family’s tray of Banh it la gai to the groom’s on the day of home return refers cleverness and diligence of the bride. The cakes are made of fresh sticky rice flour that is mixed well with pinnate leaves and refined sugar. The central part of the cake is made of green bean or coconut flesh. The typical well-taste  cake of Binh Dinh relates to the saying below:

“If a woman wants to taste Banh it la gai cake

She should get married with a Binh Dinh man and have to experience a long journey to get there”.

The Song Than noodle is made of green bean. It is famous for its delicious taste, nice scent and highly nutritionous. Song than noodle produced in An Thai region (Nhon Phu Commune - An Nhon suburban district). Its name “song than” roots from its the way of making. An Thai people usually make them into a parallel pairs of noodle strings. Legend says that the Nguyen dynasty’s kings usually asked An Thai noodles maker to go to Hue citadel to make noodles. But the makers failed to produce original taste song than noodle  because there was no water from Kon river. That is the reason people called it “The God river” noodle which had similar pronunciation with song than in Vietnamese. So the name Song than is probably derived from the  name “God river”.

Banh Hoi is made of rice flour and is the special dish of Binh Dinh. Banh Hoi is usually eaten with pork, dry rice paper, herbs and fish sauce to create a very fascinating unique fixed taste of sour, spicy, sweet and fat.

Cho Huyen Sour Pork Hash is the kind of sour pork hash made in Tuy Phuoc District. The specialty is sold a lot at Cho Huyen region. Thus, it is named Cho Huyen Sour Pork Hash. It is famous all over the country and is commonly found in people’s daily meals through the saying:

“Whoever visits Tuy Phuoc to enjoy sour pork hash

Don’t forget to pass by Hung Thanh for viewing Cham towers”

No visitors to Binh Dinh don’t like to enjoy sour pork hashes which are delicious, sour, spicy, sweet, tough and crunchy with hot and strong Bau Da wine. They all want to bring home the Binh Dinh special sour pork hashes as gifts to their friends and relatives.

Dried rice paper is a common dish of the local people’s meals. It appears in both daily meals and feasts. Clanky sound of breaking the paper and its nice scent represent for special features of Binh Dinh art of eating and drinking. Binh Dinh is considered the homeland of dried rice paper because it is said that died rice paper. Legend says that dried rice paper was used as a strategic dried cake by Tay Son insurgent troop during their fast  military deployment from Hue citadel to Thang Long (Ha Noi now) to fight against the Chinese Qing invaders. That’s the reason why Binh Dinh  is considered original land of this speciaty.

There are many kinds of dried rice paper such as pure rice paper, rice paper with sesame, etc. And the dried rice paper with first water of coconut made in Hoai Nhon District - Binh Dinh Province. It is worth to be a representative speciality as a special gift from Binh Dinh Province.

Bau Da Wine: Is a famous wine of Binh Dinh; made in An Nhon. It has very special delicious taste and worth to compete with other nationwide famous wines such as wine made in a northern village of Van, a southern village of Go Den.

Seafood:

Chinh eel: There are many kinds of Chinh such as Chinh Mun and Chinh Bong, whose meats are very delicious and nutritious. Particularly, Chinh Mun from Chau Truc Laggon in Phu My Suburban District has been well-known for its delicious taste and highly nutritious value.

Shrimps, Crabs, Cuttle- fish and Fish: Lobsters, and prawns, King crabs, Ocean Tuna used to make attractive dishes with highly nutritious value, satisfying various different people.
