Once, I visited Go Gang night market where conical hats are sold to enjoy its distinctive features. From Quy Nhon city, I started my journey at midnight.

Go Gang conical hat market locates in Nhon Thanh commune, An Nhon district. From Quy Nhon city, tourists could go along the national highway to the north. When coming to Go Gang town, it’s easy to see the market located on an alley.

However, the market only begins at midnight and ends at daybreak.

There is no signboard or stall when it opens. All sellers sitting on the ground use oil lamps to lighten the market. They come from neighboring areas, such as Go Gang or Cat Tuong, where sewing conical hats has become traditional crafts.

Sewing conical hats previously had its own craft villages. Today, most craftsmen have changed their crafts; thus, only women who have free time now make conical hats.

Conical hats sold at the market were roughly made. Buyers have to paint these conical hats with shining oil, fasten straps, and decorate them before selling newly-made conical hats wholesale.

Both sellers and buyers are familiar with each other. Some have bought conical hats at the market for over 50 years.

Oil lamps and experience will help them make the purchase. Buyers only need to hold several conical hats on their hands, waving them under the light from a lamp. They then could know their quality.

After finishing their purchases, sellers could go to a nearby market to buy material for sewing conical hats. This market is also lightened by oil lamps and material comes from different places.

There is almost no noise at the so-called market. Buyers and sellers gently make purchases for it seems that they well know each other.

Oil lamps and murmurs of voices have created a fanciful scenery at the market. These are also distinctive features of Go Gang night market.
