As beautiful as Queen Beach
14:44', 10/8/ 2010 (GMT+7)

Going canoeing around the waters of Hoang Hau Beach- Photo: Mong Binh

No-one knows exactly when the name of Hoang Hau (queen) was used to call the beach situated on the outskirts of Quy Nhon City, but many people believe it is the most beautiful beach in the central province of Binh Dinh.

You may join the list of believers when watching the Queen Beach about three kilometers southeast of Quy Nhon’s heart with your naked eyes, especially on burningly sunny days when the sun glitters the yellow sands, the turquoise surface of the calm sea and hills and mountains lying in ranges.

In the minds of many Vietnamese people, the queen always has eminence in the beauty as they have seen the pictures depicting the wives of Vietnamese kings in the past or told about these queens. Therefore, the arch-shaped beach in Quy Nhon is called so in this sense.

But, there’s another theory that the beach was named after Hoang Hau as it used to be a place for Nam Phuong Hoang Hau (the Queen of the South) to admire the seascape and bath when she accompanied her husband Bao Dai - the last emperor of Vietnam on his journeys to the region before he dethroned in 1945.

Despite a little controversy over its name origin, Hoang Hau Beach is worth visiting and will certainly win the heart of visitors. There, sea lovers can stroll in the early morning or late afternoon to have their feet massaged with warm sands after the sun rises and goes down, and egg-shaped stones in various sizes around.

As part of Xuan Van Mountain, Thi Nhan Hill serves as one of the best positions to view Hoang Hau Beach during the daytime or in the evening. Vietnam’s renowned poet now rested in peace in a grave on this Hill of the Poet that overlooks the beach in the astonishing landscape of Ganh Rang.

Down the beach again, seafood lovers can taste snail, flower crab, squid, shrimp and fish either steamed or grilled to order while sport players can go canoeing and other activities around to view from the sea the beautiful beach nestled at the feet of hills and mountains.
