Binh Dinh has a beautiful landscape and a rich cultural history - ideal conditions for tourism development. Aware of its potential, the province worked out a programme to develop tourism into a key economic sector and issued action programmes for tourism development for 2001 - 2005, 2006 - 2010 and 2011 - 2015 periods. It initially achieved encouraging results.
Tourism industry has recorded good growth over the past years, featuring tourist arrival growth of 22 percent and revenue growth of 23 percent a year over the 2001 - 2010 period. Tourism products have been gradually diversified with higher quality, while accommodation facilities have been expanded and upgraded. Currently, the province has over 110 ranked accommodation establishments with 2,647 rooms. Tourism was advertised in domestic and foreign markets.
In addition, according to its tourism development strategy, to develop individual tourism, Binh Dinh always seeks out solutions to improve the quality and categories of products. The province pays special attention to developing marine tourism and cultural - historical tourism. Marine tourism has brought, and will continue to bring, huge dividends for the province and sustainable development for the entire industry and coastal communities. Hence, the province actively joined the Phu Yen National Tourism Year 2011 featuring maritime tourism
While marine tourism brings economic value, cultural - historical tourism is also a competitive advantage for Binh Dinh over the rest of the country.
Binh Dinh province has a long historical and cultural tradition, seen in its many recognized relic sites. From the tenth century, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Champa and during nearly 500 years of its existence, this monarchy has built invaluable cultural heritages, especially the unique Cham towers. The province is also famous for martial spirit. Martial arts performances and battle drums are only present in this land. In addition, the province has many unique festivals, traditional handicraft villages and unique cuisine. Hence, developing cultural - historical tourism in close attachment to the above characteristics is a primary direction of the province at present and in the future.
In parallel with efforts to diversify and develop tourism products, Binh Dinh actively cooperates with other provinces and cities in the region and in the country to attract tourists and investors. It proactively takes part in tourism development cooperation programmes carried out by central and highlands provinces to develop tours, routes and markets along the East - West Economic Corridor. It provides most favourable conditions for tourism companies and investors to penetrate the tourism market. The province has also signed a memorandum of sub-regional tourism development cooperation with Kon Tum and Quang Ngai provinces to develop joint tourism products.
Binh Dinh has reviewed five years of implementing tourism cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City and signed the cooperation agreement for the 2012 - 2017 period. The province also actively cooperates with other provinces and cities to build the ancient capital itinerary, with the destination in the province being Do Ban citadel. The province is also preparing tourism development plans with southern Binh Duong province. Tourism cooperation programmes have brought huge opportunities for Binh Dinh province and other cooperating localities. These help tap its tourism potential and advantages, thus narrowing the development gap with regional localities.
In the coming time, to develop tourism sustainably and effectively and gradually turn tourism into a spearhead economic sector, the province will focus on developing essential technical tourism infrastructure and facilities, restoring and promoting festivals, folklore cultures and handicraft villages for tourism development. Specifically, to create the impetus for tourism development, the province will give priority to investing in and developing key projects.
